IGP Disu Warns Against Ethnic and Religious Profiling

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has warned against ethnic and religious profiling in the fight against insecurity, stressing that criminality has no ethnicity and terrorism has no religion.

Disu made the remarks on Wednesday while delivering the opening address at the North-West Security Summit in Gusau, Zamfara State.

The police chief called for an intelligence-led, community-supported and coordinated approach to tackling insecurity across the region.

He urged security stakeholders to focus on identifying and prosecuting criminal networks, their sponsors, arms suppliers, informants and facilitators, regardless of their ethnic, religious or social backgrounds.

Disu also stressed that no single security agency, government or institution can effectively secure the North-West alone.

He called for stronger intelligence sharing among security agencies and states, coordinated operations, improved border security, greater community involvement and effective early-warning systems.

According to the IGP, a collective and well-coordinated security strategy is essential to confronting the region’s growing security challenges and ensuring lasting peace.
